A-Level and IB Latin

Ana Martin Latin Tutor picture

Many students struggle with the move from GCSE to A-Level Latin, and then the change from AS to A2 is even more challenging. There is no set vocabulary list, and the expectation is that students will read fluently by the time they sit the exam, but the reality is that there is little preparation time during regular school hours.

How do I help with Advanced Latin?

I create an efficient personalised plan to help students reach reading fluency, immerse themselves in the classical world and get the grade they need to access their first choice university.

As part of my tutoring package, students get the following:

  • One-to-one sessions of 45 or 60 minutes (agreed on initial assessment)

  • One-year access to the revolutionary Legentibus app, where I set regular assignments

  • Bespoke learning materials, including unlimited access to my prose and verse unseen video tutorials

  • Feedback on homework marked between sessions

  • Access to high-quality mock papers created by me and not accessible elsewhere

  • Advise and guidance on university application and available courses worldwide

  • ad hoc help to understand Latin through other languages. I am an MFL specialist fluent in Spanish, German, French, Catalan, and my love of linguistics is contagious.

Please do not expect the following:

  • Access to mock papers that the current teacher might want to use to gauge progress: their assessments are separate, and they must be completed without help

  • Do your class homework together: I can give you similar exercises, but you must complete your schoolwork individually

  • Guarantee a particular result: I work hard to accelerate grades and give you regular feedback on predicted outcomes so that you know where you stand and can work towards realistic goals.
